Annette Zaharoff, MD

President

Dr. Zaharoff is a sports medicine physician in private practice in San Antonio, Texas. She created The Non-Surgical Center of Texas which is a comprehensive center for the evaluation and non-surgical treatment of musculoskeletal injuries. She is board certified in PM&R. Her practice includes prolotherapy, PRP and stem cell injections. She is president and a founding member of the International Association of Regenerative Therapy and serves on the Board of Directors for the Hackett Hemwall Patterson Foundation. She is an invited speaker for regenerative medicine courses in the U.S and abroad and has participated as faculty for numerous prolotherapy medical trips. She is a former professional tennis player and continues her involvement in tennis by serving as a tournament physician for national and international events.

David Wang, DO

Vice President

Dr. David Wang earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from The West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, where he received the Student D.O. of the Year Award and was selected as a teaching Fellow in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. He completed his residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Harvard Medical School/Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, during which time he was appointed Chief Resident.

Dr. Wang established a successful practice in musculoskeletal, sports, and rehabilitative medicine at two Harvard Medical School-affiliated centers, and served as an instructor at Harvard Medical School. In 2010, he returned to his native Northern Virginia neighborhood and developed a busy regenerative medicine practice at the Kaplan Center for Integrative Medicine before co-founding Regenerative Orthopedics and Sports Medicine with two of his good colleagues in March of 2016. Since then, Dr. Wang and his co-partners have led the practice through significant growth, which now employs 11 physicians across seven clinic locations, humbly serving the Metropolitan DC area and Boulder, Colorado.

Dr. Wang is an accomplished instructor in diagnostic and interventional musculoskeletal ultrasound, and teaches regularly with Gulfcoast Ultrasound Institute. He is an internationally recognized expert in regenerative injection therapy, including prolotherapy, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), orthobiologics, and lipoaspirate stem cell therapies, which promote the physiologic healing of tendon, ligament, muscle and joint injuries. He has published clinical training guides on prolotherapy and contributed textbook chapters on musculoskeletal medicine and spine care. Dr. Wang has been actively teaching regenerative medicine nationally and internationally since 2008, including over 20 intensive prolotherapy training medical missions in Honduras, Mexico and Greece, and over a dozen conferences across the country and abroad. He has been a stalwart supporter of the Hackett Hemwall Patterson Foundation for many years, and more recently of the International Association for Regenerative Therapy, whose wonderfully dedicated members are like family to him.

Eric Phillippi, MD
Secretary

Dr. Phillippi is the Founder and Medical Director of Medical Procedures of Wisconsin located in Madison, WI.  He provides regenerative injections including prolotherapy, PIT, PRP, and BMAC stem cell therapy. He also offers many outpatient surgical procedures including varicose vein treatments, vasectomy, and minor skin surgery. Board-certified in family medicine, he received his medical degree and completed residency training at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. He serves as an adjunct clinical faculty at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health teaching medical students in his course: Office-Based Procedures in Family Medicine. 

Joel Baumgartner, MD

Dr. Joel Baumgartner is a board-certified physician with a specialized fellowship in non-surgical orthopedics and sports medicine. He earned his medical degree from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine, and completed his family practice residency at the University of North Dakota. Dr. Baumgartner completed his advanced training in sports medicine with a fellowship in primary care sports medicine at Hennepin County Medical Center. He utilizes the latest in diagnostic and treatment technology to better treat musculoskeletal injury and pain. As an international speaker, he instructs both physicians and those in the medical industry on pain evaluation, diagnosis and the latest treatment options. Dr. Baumgartner has authored two books on Prolotherapy and PRP technique, He is also a contributing author on the subject of pain management for a variety of other popular publications. His family and faith remain his priority.

Greg Hon, DO

Dr. Gregory Hon is an Assistant Professor of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine at Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Hon received his Doctor of Osteopathy from A.T. Still University Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (NMM/OMM) at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, MO. He went on to complete a primary care sports medicine fellowship program at the Institute for Non-Surgical Orthopedics in South Florida. Dr. Hon is board certified in NMM/OMM and holds a certificate of added qualifications in sports medicine (CAQSM). Dr. Hon is also a candidate for the Fellowship of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine (FAWM).

Before joining the faculty at CUSOM, Dr. Hon was in clinical practice in Bolivar, MO. His practice there specialized in osteopathic manipulation, sports medicine, and non-operative orthopedics. While in Bolivar, he served as one of the team physicians for Southwest Baptist University. Dr. Hon currently serves as the head team physician for the United States 24-hour Ultramarathon team and has accompanied the team to multiple world championship races. He is active in the Hackett Hemwall and Patterson Foundation, participating in international medical mission trips providing prolotherapy in Honduras and Mexico.

Dr. Hon’s medical practice continues to focus on musculoskeletal pathology. He specializes in the non-operative evaluation and treatment of injuries and complaints involving joints, muscles, tendons, ligament, bone and nerve pathologies. Dr. Hon is an expert in concussion evaluation and management. In addition to osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT), he provides information and counseling on general exercise for health and wellness, injury prevention, and therapeutic exercise prescription. Dr. Hon performs both diagnostic and therapeutic injection techniques, as well as various regenerative injection therapies, such as dextrose prolotherapy and platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Dr. Hon is proficient with musculoskeletal ultrasound for both evaluation and diagnosis, as well as for needle guidance during injection techniques.

Denise Cytryn, MD

Dr. Denise I. Cytryn has been practicing Family Medicine since 2004 nonstop. She earned her medical degree from Buenos Aires University in 1999 and completed her Family Practice residency training at Hospital Municipal P. Piñero in Argentina. Dr. Cytryn received a Master's in Science and another specialization in Big Pharma and Research and Development.

Dr. Cytryn went on to complete a Health System Organization Management fellowship program at the Italian Hospital of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Over that time she had several studies published including a Cochrane Review.

She has worked in public and private institutions and her own private practice. She acted as a primary care, instructor, and health care manager for different organizations. She has had the honor of being a consultant in the Ministry of Health of Argentina and a faculty member of Buenos Aires University and Argentinian Catholic University.

Dr. Cytryn first got involved in musculoskeletal problems in 2011 and fell in love with its integrative involvement in a persons' health. She has gone to several meetings in Madison, Honduras, Mexico, Peru, and Greece. She feels blessed to have the chance to help people and work with a myriad of different specialists. She can provide different technics to help patients, such as regenerative injections including prolotherapy, perineural injection therapy (PIT) and platelet-rich plasma (PRP), and alternative approaches to fascial and soft tissue manipulation.

Recently Dr. Cytryn moved to Israel in 2020 and helped in Regulatory Affairs in Israel and Europe. She also works for the biggest HMO in the country and manages her private practice. Dr. Cytryn hopes she can contribute to more and more people getting “their lives back.”

Jeff Balon, BSc., DC, MD, CCFP

Dr. Jeff Balon is a Canadian trained family physician, interventional pain physician and chiropractor who has been practicing for over 39 years. I initially started in private practice and then moved on to medical director of a multidisciplinary rehabilitation center followed by a move to corporate medical director of a large healthcare company in Toronto. In that position I oversaw the large network of multidisciplinary clinics, did clinical consulting and independent assessments as well as set up sites for a variety of pharmaceutical trials. I have been involved in investigator initiated trials throughout my years including principal author of a clinical trial published in the NEJM. I am currently practicing in a private family physician clinic with emphasis on functional medicine and manual therapy and also medical director of a large interventional pain clinic in Ottawa, Canada.

I am currently on the board of a charitable mission group and a medical advisor to a biohacking company based in Europe. I have served on the board of directors of a professional association board of directors as well as a Health Canada Advisory Group on Complementary and Alternative medicine.

I was introduced to regenerative therapies through Dr. Martin Gallagher and am working hard to complete my training in prolotherapy, other regenerative therapies as well as bedside ultrasound. I was very impressed by the HHPF/ IART training I have received to date and the network of physicians I have met. I am starting to introduce regenerative approaches into my practice as well as rolling out regenerative training to our network of 9 clinics in Ontario. I am truly excited / passionate about the approach to training and eventually certification in regenerative therapies through IART. Thanks for the opportunity!

Andrea Piccozzi, MD

Currently medical director of Avalon Medical Center and club doctor of Triestina Calcio (as head physiatrist of the rehabilitation and physiotherapy staff) from the 2017 season.

After receiving a degree in Medicine and Surgery, he earned the Postgraduate Diploma in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the Post-University Diploma of Specialization in Orthopedic Manual Medicine in Paris.

Since 2006, after a period of training in the United States, he became passionate about developing non-invasive therapies that respect the physiology of healing in muscle-tendon and capsule-ligament trauma, with particular attention to the sports field. His interest in Prolotherapy (regenerative infiltrative therapy) was born from this experience abroad, subsequently perfected with conferences and training experiences with the best experts in the method worldwide and culminating in an experimental thesis on the subject.

He is also an instructor member of the Italian Society of Prolotherapy (SIPRO) where he works as scientific coordinator and speaker at conferences on regenerative infiltrative therapies on a national and international level.

Andrew Kochan, MD

Dr. Kochan graduated with a B.A. in Chemistry from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He received his M.D. in 1977 from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri.  Following an internship at Valley Medical Center in Fresno, California he completed a two-year Bioengineering Research Fellowship at UCLA in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery. As a result of this work two papers, regarding anterior cruciate ligaments of the knee were published in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. In 1984 he completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Southern California and was Board certified a few years later.

During his residency training “frustration” over conventional medicine’s inability to relieve the pain and suffering of many of my patients led him to examine a number of complementary healing modalities. This exploration included training in osteopathic evaluation and manipulation at Michigan State University, acupuncture through the UCLA School of Medicine as well as homeopathy, apitherapy, and hormonal and nutritional factors involved in healing.

However, the treatment technique he found uniformly most helpful to the majority of my patients with musculoskeletal (MSK) pain was prolotherapy. He began practicing prolotherapy in 1984 and incorporated the use of Ultrasound in 2008 and started doing platelet injections (PRP) for regenerative healing about that same time. 

In 1989 he incorporated apitherapy, particularly bee venom therapy, into my practice as a treatment for certain specific chronic and acute pains including shingles and post-herpetic neuralgia pain as well as burn scar and post operative scar pain.  He is a past President of the American Apitherapy Society (AAS) and continue to promote public and professional awareness about the medicinal value of honey, pollen, propolis, royal jelly and bee venom for a wide range of disorders.

He is a member of two prolotherapy / regenerative medicine organizations- the American Association of Orthopedic Medicine (AAOM) since 1984, and the Hackett-Hemwall-Patterson Foundation (HHPF) since 2003. He was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Association of Orthopedic Medicine in 2018 and is currently involved in the education and training of physicians learning prolotherapy and ultrasound guided injection techniques in both the AAOM and HHPF/ IART.

Iñigo Orradre, MD 

Renowned specialist in Traumatology, Dr. Orradre Burusco has a degree in Medicine from the University of Navarra since 2002 and a specialist in Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology from the Ubarmin Clinic since 2008. He completed his specialized training in pathology of the upper extremity in Paris (2007). , at the SOS Hand Unit of the Saint Antoine Hospital and at the Institute dela Main of the Jouvenet Clinic in Paris. He is an expert in arthroscopic surgery and innovative treatments; and accredited as an expert in Ultrasound of the Locomotor Apparatus by the European Federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology in 2015. In the workplace, he has worked as a specialist in traumatology in the Upper Extremity Unit of the Ubarmin Clinic in Navarra during the period 2008-2010, at the García Orcoyen Hospital in Estella from 2011 to 2017, and from 2017 to the present at the Traumatology Unit of the Hospital Complex of Navarra. He also collaborates as a consulting specialist for Mutua Navarra from 2014 to the present and he is currently in charge of the TraumaNavarra Trauma Unit at the Iturrama Medical Center in Pamplona.
